From C4 Member Carol

According to the League of American Bicyclist “friendly state rankings” our wonderful state of Georgia ranks 35th.

On the same chart Wisconsin is 2nd and Minnesota is 4th!

My friend Susan is from originally from Wisconsin, her brother still lives in Milwaukee and her sister lives just over the Minnesota line in Minneapolis.

Sound like a good excuse for a “road trip”, or in this case a “trail trip”!

Membership & Governance

There have some concerned raised about some aspects of the Membership in C4.

The $10 membership fee is put off into the uncertain future.

One of C4′s shining aspects has been it’s inclusiveness to riders of all sorts. This will always be true of our club.

That said, our club has an important role to play in our community. The riders of C4 represent the best of the cycling culture in the broadest sense. Within our group, we have the greatest depth of knowledge about cycling that exists in our community when it comes to any aspect of cycling, from racing, commuting, vacationing by bike, group rides, bike maintenance, rules of the road, advocacy, group ride etiquette, and more. This is true, for better or worse. It’s the banner we carry. Whether we carry it high or choose to drag it behind us, it’s our choice.

The minimal items that are so gently expected of C4 riders for membership are only to give confidence and knowledge to all members. There is no rider of C4 that is not well served to know how or learn to change their own tire. The same is true of knowing the rules of the road. In Georgia this year, there have been two deaths of cyclists, at their own hand, by failure to know and use the proper rules of the road for cycling. Likewise the safety of all riders is increased by improving one’s riding skills. No one is creating these standards to “weed out” riders. It is a hopeful effort to improve the competence of all riders as our standards trickle through the community. Any hopeful C4 member can expect and will certainly receive help working on their skills if they like. There will be exceptions and those can be taken care of, case by case. We are not so large a club nor so blind to not realize that there are special cases.

Welcome to Our Website & Forum

Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at 12:17 pm.

Welcome to the beta version of our new C4 Forum.

We are still working on getting the PayPal to work with the restricted access feature for members only. For the next few weeks the forums will be open without your having to pay the membership fee immediately. Please take the time to poke around this feature-rich website.

When Dan, our webmaster, has things worked out so that there’s a “log-in / register” button we’ll post a general notification. The “log-in / register” button will be leading us to a page with the ride waiver, a request for emergency contact information, and a PayPal button to accept the yearly $10 membership fee.

Go ahead and post something. Let’s get this thing going!
